I haven’t shared too much about my spring road trip through Albania yet, but I hope to rectify that in the very near future.
I can’t wait to show you the gorgeous but wild back country, tell you stories of our adventures driving through this country without a working map or GPS, and the stark remnants of a history marked by war and economic upheaval.
Albania was the country hardest to get into and out of, the one place I was truly scared, and by far one of the best adventures I’ve ever had.
Today I want to give you a tiny glimpse of this wondrous country.
Near the border between Montenegro and Albania
Mountains between Albania and Greece
A glimpse of the sea on our way to Greece
What would you like to know about Albania?
These photos are wonderful Krista! I know very little about Albania although it’s not far from my country. A friend of mine had a holiday there last summer with her family. I read her posts on her blog and I think Albania is a great place to visit… good food, wonderful nature, friendly people – that’s what I heard.
Wow, Krista, beautiful photos, can’t wait to hear more about your trip!:)
It looks such a beautiful place, made me laugh that you had to manage without GPS as my husband and I have used one!
Thank you, Zita!! It is such a beautiful place with some of the kindest and jolliest people I’ve ever met. A vacation there would be so peaceful and restful. 🙂
I’m so glad you like them, Lana! 🙂 I’m excited to share even more.
Oh Linda, you should’ve seen us!!! I’ve never experienced such a gong show of a road trip. 🙂 It was hilarious and madcap and so much fun. 🙂
stunning pics, i love the shot of the sea!! thanks for sharing
sweetlife

Tiny glimpse Krista?

Pics are fantastic as always.
Isn’t the sea so beautiful, SweetLife? It still makes me swoon inside. 🙂
That’s my favorite one too, Paradis. 🙂 Can’t wait to show you more of the shepherds we came across. 🙂
I’m so glad you like them, Mia! 🙂 Albania is such a stunningly gorgeous country. 🙂
Oh wow, I can’t wait to learn more, I know NADA about this country!!!
it looks like a great place to visit …
What a lovely country, Krista! Your photos are wonderful. Tell us more!
Albania is lovely and so are your photos! Thanks for sharing….
SUCH good memories– though I’m more likely to return to the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia than Albania. 🙂
I remember being fascinated with Albania and the thought of going there as a teen because back then it was a “closed” country; I would love to see more of your beautiful photos.
I’ve never really seen much of Albania so thankyou Krista! It looks beautiful.
how come you hold out on sharing all of this stuff for so long?
Collecting stories and pictures now, Andi! 🙂
It really is, Isabelle! Wonderful people, delicious food, gorgeous countryside. 🙂
Thank you, Barbara! I promise I will. 🙂 Just taking a bit of collecting to get it all in order. 🙂
You’re very welcome, Lisa. 🙂 I’m so excited to finally be getting around to posting them!
Didn’t we have the BEST adventures, Amze?! 🙂 I’d travel with you anywhere, my friend. 🙂
I know what you mean, Joumana. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be able to visit. It far surpassed anything I could have pictured.
You bet, Lorraine! I’ll have more for you soon. 🙂
Well, Rhiannon, part of it is because my brother still has most of my pictures and I’m waiting to get the last of them. 🙂
Wow, have to say I don’t know much about Albania – the photos are beautiful though & when we lived in Italy, a lot of people said it was an “overlooked” destination – can’t wait to learn more via your trip!
Well you know me… I want to know about the food of course! It looks stunning btw.
Gorgeous! Can’t wait to read more.
Absolutely stunning!!! I am looking forward to reading about your adventure in Albania. Very cool.
Velva
Oh yes please Krista 🙂 You know we live precariously through your adventures Lovely 🙂 Bring on Albania I say 🙂
The situation with Albanians in Kosovo isn’t a pretty one. It is similar to the Mexican’s in the US – the illegal ones, and then them claiming the country as their own.
🙂
I have been neck deep in the throws of planning a local food conference here within slow food and have not posted for three weeks. Important work. Time well spent: BUT…I have not read, written, cooked and I miss my life and reading YOU!
I am catching up slowly!
🙂
Valerie
I’m hoping you’ll share the details about the scary moments. And I love hearing about your adventures! Post soon! 🙂
oh Krista..these are wonderful photos! I want to BE there, but these almost make me feel like I am 🙂
The photos look great, I dont know that much about Albania to be honest. But it should be an interesting place to visit 🙂
