I confess I have a slight addiction to photographing doors.
Especially weathered colorful ones that make my heart swell every time I see them.
Much to my delight, Malta and Gozo were peppered with colored beauties, worn and aged from winds and sunshine.
I loved them!
I think I must have the most patient traveling companions in the world. I’m still slow as molasses hobbling about on my injured foot, but with all these gorgeous doors I had to slow down even more to stop every few meters so I could capture them. If I had awards for such things, I’d be handing them out on this trip. š
I’d buy fruit from this vendor simply because of the splendid blue door he was parked in front of.
And I dearly wanted a brightly colored Gozo fishing boat so I could tuck it safely away behind one of these lovely doors.
And wouldn’t you love to move into House #24 just so you could enter this door each night after work?
Or perhaps House #141 would do just as well.
I was so inspired by these doors that I already have plans to paint each door of my new home in Australia a different color.
What color would you like to paint your front door? š
Doors are fascinating (the older, the better!) I love the green from your second photograph…it seems as though it has a story to tell. š If I could paint my front door any colour, I would go with a scrapy green.
It sure does look like it has a story, Valerie. š I’d love to hear it! Green is one of my favorites too. š
Red would be my colour of choice. I love to take photos of doors as well, sometimes even windows.
Oh, I like windows too, Val – and LOVE red!!! It’s definitely my favorite color of all. š
Stunning, i think I have probably already mentioned to you before that I just love doors as well. š
We would be great travel companions, Linda – stopping to take pics of doors all the way down the street. š
I love doors and windows!!!Ā My fave is the 2nd green one š
I fancy the green one myself, Andi! š
Europe has the most wonderful doors. I have many photos of Spanish doors. All so old and interesting compared to Australian and New Zealand doors.
Oh, I would love to see Spanish doors one day, Barbara. I’ve been to France, Italy and Portugal, but never Spain! One day. š
Now you have me thinking to paint all the doors in my new house a different color!Ā I’m thinking purple for the guest room, yellow for the office and a teal blue for my bedroom! My husband will probably veto this idea…
I think husbands are fond of vetoing such ideas, Katie! š Perhaps you could surprise him? š Teal blue would be my choice for my bedroom too. š
Lovely shots of the doors, Krista! I can understand your obsession too – we’ve got lots of beautiful doors here, especially blue ones, that I enjoy taking photos of as well – just something about that color!
Oh I bet you do, Tuula! You capture the most wonderful shots of your beautiful part of France. š
I feel like doors can be metaphors for so many things…that I can totally understand why you love them!
I think you are very astute, Joanne. They mean a lot to me somehow. š
Krista, your photos from Malta and Gozo are simply wonderful! The dramatic cliffs and colorful doors are particularly beautiful. I’m so glad to see you’re having such a great time!! š
Thank you so much, Karen! I really, really loved it there and can’t wait to go back. š
I think fire-engine red.Ā It would be very distinctive.Ā
When we lived in New York, another place with marvelous old doors, there was a popular turist posted of doors:Ā at least several dozen all together on the same large page.Ā Really lovely.
I agree, Stevie! I’ve always wanted a bright red front door. š
What a lovely thing to do in New York! š
My front door would have to be orange. I too love doors and entrances, ever since I saw gorgeous ones in Paris 3 years ago. I’ve added door handles to the obsessions! Miss you loads dearie – hope your ankle’s getting better
That would suit you beautifully, dear Oz!! Would you believe I just started perusing door handles myself this trip? š I knew we were kindred spirits! I miss you loads too, dear friend. š
Beautiful!! I love doors too, I always take pictures of them on my trips. My favorite one is a red door I found in London – gorgeous!! š Which is your favorite of these?
Sara
Oh I’d love to see a red door in London, Sara! š I think my favorite of this series is the green one with the filigree metalwork on top. š
Love the photos, Krista! I would paint my door a bright blue, similar to the one in your photo (with the fruits in front of it).Ā I’m looking forward to seeing photos of your different color doors in Australia.
Thank you, dear Kathy. š I’ve been pondering colors every since Malta and think I have to have turquoise blue for my granny flat, or maybe bright cheery red. š
oh.Ā I LOVE the idea of painting every door a different colour.Ā I expect photos of course.Ā š
You can count on it, Rae! Unless of course they look hideous – but then again I may take photos anyway. š
Lovely shots, as always š Our doors are so ordinary you’ll be taking photos of something else when you make it down here š
I think they are as ordinary as the Canadian and American ones I’m familiar with, Corinne. But perhaps we can start a Colored Door Revolution in Oz? š
what awesome images.Ā i am always drawn to pics of doors too : )

Thank you so much, Cailen! I’m very glad you found me too! Dashing over to see your blog right now. š
nice door color combination … its really amazing
LOL! You did everything just to stare at those exquisite and colorful doors. This made me remember the films I watched that were shot in Greece and Israel. Iām not certain but, may I ask where this is? The gate in the middle (4th photo) looks rusty but it made the gate look dramatic and it blended well with the other two gates. Awesome! The rest were just splendid. Hope you find the perfect colors for your doors in Australia. Iād love to see how your painting turned out!
