Living in several different countries makes for a rather topsy-turvy life where visas are concerned. This month is a particularly madcap one as two visa requirements for two different countries came up at the same time.
This weekend I fly to islands of Vanuatu (formerly known as the New Hebrides) for a 24 hour stay since the Australian Government needs me out of the country for a few minutes. I could’ve gone anywhere, so long as it was out of Australia, so I went online, found the cheapest ticket going anywhere, and Vanuatu was the place.
I am so excited about visiting this collection of islands, even if it is only for 24 hours. I remember reading about the New Hebrides when I was little, never in my wildest imaginings thinking that one day I would actually see these beautiful places.
I will be staying on Nguna Island, a short boat ride from the main town of Port Vila. I have no idea what I will be doing there, but I’m very excited about my little seaside bungalow, a place that requires the use of lanterns at night because there is no electricity. 🙂 It also includes home cooked meals by the owners, so I’ll get to find out what island food is like. I plan to make the most of my 24 hours there, and, if I can figure out how to use Bear’s camera, I will take heaps of pictures to share with you.
Ten days after I get back I hop on another plane to fly to Canada and then down to the United States to meet the requirements of my American visa.
Phew!
I’m tired just thinking about it, but so happy to know I’ll get to see dear folks, eat copious amounts of Mexican food, and experience a bit of winter whilst visiting some of my favorite haunts around Washington and British Columbia.
So it’s looking to be a wild ride this month, but it will be a good one. 🙂
How about you, dear one? What is your March looking like?

Oh my goodness, what an adventure this will be! Your take on New Hebrides will be interesting (that was the name I remember from reading AND the one I could actually spell). It sounds so fun. Getting to see loved ones in Washington and BC will be a wonderful bonus! My fingers are crossed that you will have mastered the camera sso we can see too!  =) About the Mexican food, maybe you should consider a short jaunt down here to Tucson, there are more good Mexican restaurants then there are Walgreens and that is saying quite a lot since there seems to be a Walgreens on every corner!
Oh, I would LOVE to visit you in Tucson and go Mexican restaurant hopping with you. 🙂 If I get a windfall between now and then, I will be there!! 🙂
If only you were coming a few states south of Washington! Then I could show you some killer Mexican food. I guess if you have to leave Australia for 24 hours, the tropics is the way to go!
Oh man, Deanna, I would LOVE that!! You’d be such an entertaining guide I’d love every minute of it. 🙂
What a great month this going to be for you Krista. Hope this Oz government gives you a decent length of stay on your new visa!
Thank you, Jenny! I do too. 🙂
Wow! Vanuatu is REALLY out of the way! I watched a couple episodes of a series (on YouTube) called “Meet the Natives” about some men from Vanuatu who go to visit England… I really want to finish watching it because it’s super fascinating. Can’t wait to read about your visit!
That sounds so very interesting, Amy. I’d love to see that series!
What an exciting life! Those landscapes are just dreamlike.
Cheers,
Rosa
These were taken in Mexico, Rosa, and yes, they ARE dreamlike. 🙂
Krista you a real traveller, I will look forward to hearing about your latest adventures.
Thank you, Linda. I hope to start sharing soon. 🙂
Beautiful photos Christa, and it will be wonderful to have you back in the US for a while:) Hugs from Texas
Thank you so much, dear Juci! 🙂 I just wish I had time to visit you! 🙂
Looking forward to the pictures, K. Have fun!
Thanks so much, dear T. 🙂 I’ll start editing them soon!
How incredible! I’m insanely jealous… and maybe a bit pre-emptivly exhausted, too.Â
I’m glad you understand the exhaustion involved in such ventures, dear Duchess. 🙂
That’s a lot of mileage! Have a great time in Vanuatu 🙂
I really did, Corinne. Now I’m recovering from a stomach virus I picked up there. Sheesh. 🙂
what an amazing opportunity in having to leave for visa renewals to see such an amazing part of our crazy beautiful world! God’s blessings and strength as you travel and visit loved ones who no doubt, are so excitedly waiting for you… good luck with Bear’s camera! I will be awaiting the results with anticipation!
Thank you, dear Susan! 🙂 It took a few experiments but I finally figured it out. 🙂 Can’t wait to share the photos with you. 🙂
You are definitely living a crazy life at the moment and I LOVE hearing about it and seeing all these gorgeous photos!
Thank you, dear Joanne! I’m sick and exhausted but it was so worth it. 🙂 Will post pics soon!!
Oh wow! I was thinking you were moving to Australia permanently, but now off to the US? Can’t wait to hear about your adventures – you’re going from one home country of mine to another! =) Â ~Andrea.
I hope to be soon, Andrea, but as you know from your experiences, I have some hoops to jump through first before I get a permanent visa. 🙂
keeping us guessing girlfriend! Â have a lovely time! Â looking forward to your sharing.
Thank you, Paradis! I will do my best. 🙂
Enjoy!! Â I know you will!
It was a very illuminating and interesting trip, Erin. 🙂
Looks like there are more adventures in store Krista!!!
You said it, Val! 🙂 As much fun as the adventures are, I’m really, really looking forward to being home again. 🙂
Krista! March is now looking a bit brighter with your visit on the way. Talk about some spring sunshine! For us it’s a lot of work this month. I am grateful though, as always that doors continue to open. We pray for wisdom to walk well through the right ones. Cam and I also will be taking a funny little trip to a tiny nothing town called West Wendover Nevada for a 4 day “flyaway.” We’ll see what a town with 3 casinos and a freeway has to offer. May have to do some exploring outside of the “city.”
I am so very, very excited to see you, Robin!!! To linger long over coffee for good visits. Miss you more than I can say. 🙂 xo
Your March is so much more exciting than mine, lol! Your trip to Nguna Island sounds like so much fun! I’m totally jealous of your seaside bungalow and homecooked local meals…can’t wait to hear all about it and live vicariously through your travels, sweetie!
A wild ride indeed, but you’ll be in beautiful surroundings. It’s such a long-winded process with visas, but I hope it goes relatively smoothly for you!
Sounds like paradise, especially the lanterns! I have an aunt in Vanuatu so will love to hear your thoughts on the place,
ciao lisa
Errrm well I think your March is going to be slightly more hectic than the quiet one we have planned. We’re just waiting for some better weather then we can at least get our for the day! 🙂 Your adventure to the islands of Vanuatu sounds amazing. I’ve never heard of them before. Great when you make the most of trips out for the country for a visa. we used to go to a fantastic little Greek island for the day. Perfect.Â
Beautiful white sand, blue water island. I would love to land there. No worries just peace and beautiful nature.
Wow, Krista, you are always such a busy lady! Have a good trip, looking forward to hearing all about Vanuatu!x
