“Okay, this is the wisdom.
First, time spent on reconnaissance is never wasted.
Second, almost anything can be improved with the addition of bacon.
And finally, there is no problem on Earth that can’t be ameliorated by a hot bath and a cup of tea.”
Jasper Fforde
Bear and I were out running errands this morning, getting groceries, picking up library books, and looking at plants, when he suggested cuppas at a sidewalk cafe.
I was delighted to oblige.
While he dashed off to finish up the last of his personal errands, I secured a table in the glorious sunshine and settled in for a luxurious read of the Autumn edition of my very favorite dreamy magazine sent all the way from America by a dear friend.
The dappled Autumn sunshine, cool breezes with just a hint of bite to them, the bustle of shoppers strolling past my table, it was all so marvelous I couldn’t stop smiling.
There’s something utterly restorative about a hot cup of something in the middle of chores or errands. Suddenly the hurly-burly of lifeΒ slows down and instead of going over to-do lists and trying not to forget anything, you get to sit, and breathe, and visit about everything and nothing while you watch the world go by.
It was a luxurious break in the midst of our slightly madcap day and we both stood up from our emptied cups with spirits restored and bodies relaxed.
The rest of our errands went smoothly: finding little treasures at the thrift store, having a chat with a good friend at the shop where we buy fence-building supplies, and nabbing the cutest little fern to put in the kitchen.
We arrived home tired but happy, just in time for a glass of Oma’s homemade plum wine to warm our bones as the sun set.
What do you love most about your favorite cafe? xo
Krista – so pleased that you took some time to read your magazine and then relax with Bear. I like to sit and chill out and enjoy a coffee or a little something to eat. Depending on the weather it will either be inside where it is warm and cosy or outside in the garden area π
Both of those options sound absolutely wonderful, @wanderingsheila:disqus π
tea is nice, but cake is my drug of choice! xoxo

Oh yes, paradis, cake is a wonderful, wonderful thing. π
Nothing nicer…. enjoy your day, lovely xo
Thank you, @liz_posmyk:disqus π It was so good. π
I love ferns!! I have one I planted behind some a raised bed, and now I’m finding little tendrils of it all over. I can’t wait for them to fill in.
Yes… a warm cup to slow down and enjoy the moment is a wonderful decision!
Oh how fun, @kimlivlife:disqus π I didn’t realize they would self-seed. That IS exciting. π
The autumnal dappled sunlight is just beautiful. We all need to learn to take a few minutes to sit and enjoy a cuppa in peace and quiet.
The light mesmerized me, @disqus_xRgkTDNCQJ:disqus So magical. π
sounds like you had a perfect day! I don’t have a favourite cafe per say but I do enjoy a break from chores π
lol! Yes, @tandysinclair:disqus a break from chores is MOST enjoyable. π
I can’t commit to a favourite, but I often visit one where I grab a coffee with a friend who owns her own business. She doesn’t get out of the office much so I go to this cafe because it is close to her work. Also it is called the Spirited Goat! The cafe opens onto a breezeway where we usually sit, but inside there is a huge goat painted on hessian by the owner’s Aunt. Need I say more π
I love that, @budgetjan:disqus!! π What an excellent name for a cafe. π
The sunshine in the images is glorious. How lovely to have an unexpected ‘time out’ to just relax, enjoy the sunshine and flip through your favourite magazine. And I like the sound of the plum wine too xx
Isn’t it amazing, Charlie? I was enchanted. π
I know I’m a little late, but I love that you were able to take some time out. π My fave cafe, mostly my buddy that makes my coffee. She is a magical unicorn that makes my days brilliant. π
