Sometimes life goes a bit wobbly. The last couple of weeks have been difficult ones with my body reacting badly to a redback spider bite followed by a virus and then migraines. Good grief. I looked at Bear this morning as we relived the gong show that has been our life recently and laughed, saying, “You just can’t make this stuff up!”
Thankfully, all is not dreadful. We have twelve baby goats toddling about our farm, and it is not possible to stay discouraged with their cute little selves making us smile.
We had luscious rain this weekend and all my gardens are thriving. Even in the middle of winter we’re harvesting radishes and tomatoes, lilly pillies and blueberries, rocket and fresh herbs.
The last couple of days have been especially painfulΒ for me, but today I perked up a bit and decided to make the most of it by baking and cooking. I made a huge pot of chili, dark chocolate brownies, and two loaves of spelt bread. It smells marvelous in here, and it’s a relief to know that even if I get sick again, we’ll have good food to nourish us and keep us going.
This afternoon I was able to get out for a little walk with Luna. It was glorious. Such wondrous skies and rain-washed air and excited greetings from all the dogs as we strolled around the farm.
Even when life is hard, I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful place with my Bear and our menagerie.
What keeps you going through wobbly days? xo
I’m sorry that you have been feeling ill. We don’t have poisonous spiders here, thank goodness. I bet your kitchen smelt wonderful with all that homely cooking and baking – real comfort food. GG
I’m so glad you don’t have poisonous spiders near you, GG. π
There will be plenty more days of sunshine, fresh produce from the garden, and delicious smells wafting from the garden. I am sad to hear you are feeling less than 100% to enjoy it all.
Thank you for that good reminder, Val. π I’m so glad to be in a place where I can enjoy those things again. π
I’m afraid of spiders. We don’t have many poisonous one except black widows. But any bite is unpleasant. Take care and keep up that mouth-watering baking.
I wasn’t afraid of them before, @judithworks:disqus, but I am very cautious now. π
Amazing that something so small can pack such a punch, isn’t it? Those photos are absolutely spectacular and I can almost smell that bread baking! Hope the week just goes uphill from here~ Hugs, J.
Yes! I was astonished that such a little creature could inflict so much pain, @disqus_WseMqaTPwi:disqus So glad to be better now. π
I love the phrase ‘wobbly days’ and I’m sorry you’ve had a string of them. Your pictures are gorgeous.
It is so descriptive, isn’t it, @breannemosher:disqus? π
I didn’t realise it was a red back. Far out – that’s quite impressive. Not for you obviously, no wonder it’s taken it’s toll. Your sourdough looks spectacular. Wishing a speedy recovery for you x
Oh you made me laugh, @disqus_xRgkTDNCQJ:disqus π Impressive is right. Glad it wasn’t something worse! π
I am so sorry to hear it’s been rough – that damn spider! Red backs are the worst. π I bet the smell of that bread baking perked you up a bit though. Stay safe and take it easy please!
Thank you, @goldiegal:disqus It’s 6 weeks later and I’m feeling so much better now. π
Did you go to the hospital when you were bitten? When my daughter was 10 days old both she and I were bitten by red backs! Unfortunately she was bitten first so had the most venom in her but they still sent me to hospital as well! Thankfully when they administered the antivenom they could see her colour change immediately and knew she would be OK! I wish they had given me chocolate brownies…I would have felt better immediately! Glad you’re felling a bit better now.
I did, @jenny_atasteoftravel:disqus, but they weren’t able to identify it right away. It was only as the symptoms developed. So glad you and your daughter were OK. That would’ve been so scary!! I agree that chocolate brownies would’ve been a marvelous medicine. π
I hope you feel much better and recovered soon, Krista. Such a scary thing to happen! Wobbly days for me mean making the to-do list a little bit shorter and do one thing at a time with added breaks in between. That way, I still feel like I’m achieving. Sometimes, I may just leave the list for another day. π xxxx
A shorter list with added breaks sounds like a very smart plan, @justinedejonge:disqus π
I do hope you are back to your self soon. I know how it is to feel rotten. It’s really tough to cook when you feel bad and I’m impressed at all the cooking you did! The bread looks pretty amazing! My wobbly days are like yours, I try to find the good and am thankful that I can still function. Take care xx
It’s amazing how being able to function can bring us so much joy, isn’t it, @coffeeandcrumpets:disqus? Wishing you many more functioning days. XO
that bread looks amazing. On wobbly days I look at all the amazing things in my life and be grateful for them π
Gratitude sure makes a big difference, @tandysinclair:disqus π
Red back spiders have a really dreadful venom so I’m not surprised it is taking you a while to get over being bitten. What a dreadful event! Your bread looks stunning and so are your farm images and how lovely to have all those baby goats wandering around – I think I would waste a lot of time just watching them play xx
Yes, Charlie, sometimes I just let the chores go and sit on the ground and watch the babies play. π They are so darling. π
Goodness me lovely one, you have been in the wars. Sending you truck loads of healing energy and a big squishy warm hug too. xx
Was feeling a little wobbly this past week or so, decided id try blowing it out with a bottle of red wine. Seemed to work. Yay.
Thank you so much for the healing energy and squishy warm hugs, @disqus_o9c9vkchcC:disqus I know they made a huge difference for me. XOXO
