“As long as you can take one more step, take it.”ย
These words have been ringing in my head since I read them on HONY (Humans of New York) a couple of weeks ago.
They helped me be brave in a situation where I thought I couldn’t be brave any more. Turns out, I could.
They helped me keep exercising even when I didn’t see any visible results. Turns out, even when we can’t see results, our body still says thank you.
They helped me try again in areas where I really wanted to give up. Turns out sometimes that “one more try” is just the one you need for something good to happen.
Today these words continue to spur me on to goodness. Helping me set aside distractions and tackle a huge assignment as I plug along in my business course. Reminding me to keep on eating and cooking healthy simply because it’s good for my well-being. Urging me to take the time to connect with people who inspireย me to love, create, and live well.
I’m so thankful for the people who share their stories on HONY. They never fail to impact me deeply. If you haven’t done so recently, please click here and spend a few minutes reading those stories. You cannot help but emerge a better person, richer in compassion, understanding, and kindness. And if you ever feel alone, read some more. Before long you will see that you aren’t.
Have you read any words recently that were just what you needed? I’d love to hear about them. xo
‘Dwell in possibility’ by Emily Dickenson is my mantra of the last year. It has carried me into new and wonderful places! Another inspirational post, my friend!!
Ohh, that is lovely, @disqus_WseMqaTPwi:disqus ๐ I shall think on that today. XO
I wish I had some words of wisdom for you Krista, something inspiring. I would have to say that your words often inspire me.
Yes, I have… shared recently on my personal FB page… you and I are on the same page xx
ooh – looks like spring where you are! a friend years ago sent me a few words on a scrap of paper. they were as follows: “our reach should exceed our grasp”. and “nothing ventured, nothing gained”. i’ve lived by them ever since. yup, always, one more step. xo

Not recently Krista – but I am encouraged by you ๐
Your words often inspire me, Krista. A phrase that comes to mind is ‘the world is full of possibilities’ so I guess that would be my words for today.
Last night I read the heading of your blog post as being one more sleep – I did not have my glasses on ๐ I am working on my own encouraging words to listen to my own needs.
Something that has always stuck with me Krista is “just grow where God plants you”. For a restless gypsy such as myself it encourages me to sit a little more quietly in the now and think about the resources I already have that I don’t always acknowledge. I heard this from a very wise owl when I was only in my 20’s and with boundless energy and willful determination did everything but. As I get older it continues to resonate with me and I am finally coming to understand the real meaning of his words. When I met you I saw an incredibly bright competent talented warm human being who is “growing where God planted her”. All will be well I’m sure of it.
The stories on HONY are so inspiring. And all praise to the author for a totally original concept. I’m glad you’re feeling uplifted and yes, exercising is never a waste of time xx
On Tuesday, I came across Sarah Bessey’s article, “The Sanitized Stories We Tell” (http://sarahbessey.com/sanitized-stories-we-tell/). I’ve been letting my youngest babe’s birth story lie fallow for months after struggling to strike the right tone; Bessey helped me realize how I think I ought to feel about my experience prevents me from expressing how I actually feel about it. It’s not the story I wanted to tell, but it’s the one I have, and it’s still worth telling. i love when random reading leads to an unexpected click ๐
You do inspire me. You are a woman of substance.
Last week I received an email from you, and the words in that email were exactly what I needed to hear.
“I’m so
glad we don’t have to go through this hard stuff alone. If you ever need
to vent, I’m here. And I’ll probably listen and say, “ME TOO!” ๐ XO”
Thank you for your friendship Krista, I am so blessed to be surrounded with beautiful people like you. xox
I so agree – Humans of New York is the best thing on the interwebz since Post Secret (which regularly had me in tears!). Not from HONY but words I reflect on often: “everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle”. Beautiful images of Spring blossoms, just as we are heading into Fall…
