I love my three brothers, and I love hanging out with them in their homes now that they’re all grown up with fabulous women and places of their own.
For Christmas this year I got to visit my middle brother Evan and his wife, my dear sister-in-law Kendra at their home in Germany. We spent four marvelous days lounging about playing cards, Settlers of Catan, watching movies and going for hikes in the snow. And every morning we got to eat the amazing breakfasts they’d put together.
While we sipped big mugs of creamy coffee, Kendra would make a gorgeous fruit platter of some kind, a light dusting of sugar glittering in the candlelight.
Then she and Ev would labor over the stove making crispy hash browns, creamy eggs, whole grain toast and a whole lotta bacon. Mmm, mmm!
Around noon one of us would decide that maybe, just maybe we should get out of our pjs and go for a walk. It was the snowiest Christmas imaginable in Germany, and we had such fun bundling up and trekking through knee-high drifts or warily stepping our way over hard-packed stretches that squeaked under our boots and were as slick as ice.
Some days it was too wicked cold even for us Canadians, so we’d happily stay warm and toasty inside and just enjoy the view.
What is your favorite breakfast on a snowy morning?
fresh hot oatmeal on top of a cup of frozen blueberries, topped with a cup of fresh ‘goat milk’ Yoghurt and a drizzle of real maple syrup!
It was a lovely Christmas season here in Germany. Snow at all the perfect times…and stopped before it got way too old hehe. It hasn’t snowed much sense December in my area- woohoo!
On a snowy morning, pancakes/waffles or baked french toast are tied hehe. Maybe some rolls…and of course all accompanied with bacon! Orgeous photos!
Breakfast is the favorite meal in our house. Waffles were mentioned last night and my daughter got up early to make them this morning! Your Christmas in Germany with your family sounds like it was perfect, Krista. π
I don’t like snow but I love food like this, looks so good=)
How gorgeous! Makes me want to snuggle up with some hot chocolate. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I love oatmeal, with a spoonful of PB or Nutella mixed in when it’s really cold out. And of course, hot coffee π
That plate of fruit in the first photo is my sort of breakfast π
The food looks delicious, the snow looks not so much haha.
Sounds like a lovely time with your brother & sister-in-law π I’m not one for the cold myself, but after our last trip skiing, there’s nothing like a steaming cappucinno to get me going in the morning, yum!
Krista, If I was there at this moment, I’d probably eat more then what you show on this pictures LOL. You know cold, snow equal eat more for me π
I can’t say that I have experienced too many snowy mornings, living in Florida. However, cold mornings hot coffee, a traditional American breakfast much like what you enjoyed in Germany will usually hit the spot.
Spring will be here soon.

I love the way that you describe your friends and family. I feel like we were there! π Sadly I haven’t experienced many snowy mornings but I think something substantial is always welcome π
Love the idea of fresh fruit on a wintery day, youΒ΄re so lucky to get blueberries.
looks divine! Nothing like crepe for me.
Ah…I really like the food pictures!
French toast, I think. Hot with syrup. The best part is licking the syrup off the fork after the last bite.
I love the Fiji photos, but the food gets me every time! My favourite cold weather breakfast is eggs benedict. I don’t often make them at home, but I always order them when I go out. If I’m cooking, I make oatmeal-buttermilk pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup, of course!

That sounds delicious, Susan! I would love that for breakfast too. π
I didn’t know you lived in Germany, Sommer! That’s great! I’m glad you’re a bacon fan too. π Delicious!
How lovely that your daughter likes to cook, Nicole! Waffles sound so delicious. π
Thank you, Alice! The snow was nice to look at but I’m glad it’s gone now. π
That sounds perfect, Brenna. π I love mornings like that!
Me too, Linda! I loved how she always made it look so beautiful. π
I hear ya, Andi! Bring on the sunshine and beaches!!!
It really was, Tuula. It made the cold bearable. π
Oh, me too, Elra! I definitely had more. π
A snowy morning would be such a treat for me as I doubt I’ve woken up to one more than a few times in my life (& I was generally overseas somewhere when that happened tucked up in some hotel somewhere)…, so… can’t really say. But…, I’d absolutely have a crack at your choice, sounds amazing.
