Few things make me happier than wandering a city with no destination in mind.
Prague is the perfect place for such aimless meanderings because it doesn’t matter what street you follow or what corner you turn, there is always something to delight and intrigue.
I love the rich colors on so many of the old hotels and buildings. They make me want to don silk evening gowns and wear ropes of pearls while a jazz piano plays in the lobby.
It’s so lovely to find gorgeous little gardens among the acres of grey cobbled streets and paved sidewalks.
The street cafes look so welcoming with their overflowing flower boxes and cheery red umbrellas. AND they provide perfect opportunities for people-watching.
There’s nothing quite like taking public transportation to make you feel part of a city. I have such fun taking trams, buses, and the metro, seeing parts of town I might never otherwise see. It’s also a great way to observe how the locals dress, shop, and interact with each other.
Perhaps the best part of such wanderings is finding the perfect coffee shop tucked away in a hidden courtyard. We spent a few cozy hours there sipping espresso, sharing Czech Honey Cake and warm apple strudel while we watched passersby, visited and looked at Czech food magazines.
What is your favorite way to explore a city?
Ooh. I’d like that Honey Cake.Β
Sounds like you’re having a super awesome time. I’d love sometime off to wander around an unknown city.Β
It was delicious, Baker Street!! π I am having a wonderful visit and shall really miss my friends when it’s time to leave. π
Thanks for sharing these days with us Krista!
Oh you’re very welcome, dear Val. π So glad you’re enjoying them! π
Ah it all looks and sounds lovely, just my kind of day!xx
My kind of day too, Lana. π So relaxing and delightful.
OH my goodness! Prague looks so bright and beautiful!
I’ve only seen it dark and grey too, Brenna – so I was delighted by the difference the sun makes. π
Sounds so relaxing. Love it!
The Honey Cake – yummm – gets me to thinking, I have a friend who’s eager to make goodies for me if I ask. And wouldn’t you know it, Honey Cake is one of her specialties! I think you get the picture ;). I have to make a call now. Ta-ta! π
Enjoy the rest of your time there, Krista! Safe travels!

I love exploring a city through food and it seems like you’re doing just that! That honey cake looks lovely!
Me too, Joanne! I loved eating the traditional desserts and whole platters of pork, dumplings and potatoes. π
Prague is now even higher on my list of places to visit, like you we love to explore by using public transport and walking miles!
I’m so glad, Linda! I’m sure you would absolutely love it. π
I’m a bit too much of a control freak to wander around without a destination but I do admire that you can. I wish I could! And perhaps then I would come across lovely vistas like this. Gorgeous flower photo Krista!Β
I’m glad you like it, Lorraine. π Not everyone is happy wandering without a plan. But I know you have wonderful adventures WITH your plans. π
The outside of the buildings have such charm even though they are close together. Β
They really do, Chaya. π
“”Itβs so lovely to find gorgeous little gardens among the acres of grey cobbled streets and paved sidewalks.””- Thats the cutest thing about this stunning post π

Your photos are magnificent, Krista!Β Prague is truly a city I would love to wander around.Β That honey cake is lovely…I would love to try to recreate it at home!
I don’t know what my favorite way to explore a city is:Β maybe all the things that you describe here?Β I do like people-watching, both on vacation and while at home. I work near a convention center.Β On warm days it is fun to sit in the little park nearby at lunch and watch the conventioneers.
I once went to a palm reader who swore up and down that the city I belonged in was Prague… I have yet to go. Sigh.Β
Prague is gorgeous – I’ve seen that hotel, but it looks just as beautiful in your photo as it does in person! Great job. What is that dessert in the last photo, carrot cake? Whatever it is, my mouth is watering!! π
Sara
