After the launch of my book and completing the last of the radio and newspaper interviews, I’m slowly but surely getting back to normal life: laundry, animals, new writing projects, and cuddling ducklings whenever possible.
Today I got to bake up a storm and do a Country Tea Party photo shoot and story. It was so much fun, especially because my hubby and our friends, Ann and Oma, showed up to help me feast out under the trees.
We laughed hard and told stories and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves after working full steam ahead all day. Nothing like afternoon tea in the shade of a big tree to relax you in body and spirit.
After they left and the dishes were done, I went for a wander to check on animals and gardens and was thrilled to see my lilly pilly fruiting!
Until this week, I’d only ever seen them in pictures, and never heard of them at all until I moved to Australia. They have such gorgeous little berries.
Isn’t that color fantastic? I tasted my first ones today and am smitten. 🙂 They’re crisp and slightly tart and very refreshing. I don’t know what to liken the flavor to yet, but I will keep you posted.
Have you ever had a lilly pilly berry before? What is your favorite kind of berry? xo
Oh – that picture of the duckling!! Too gorgeous. I think these little pink berries used to grow in South Africa too (would not surprise me, given the similar climate!) but I don’t think I have ever eaten one. My favourite berry is a blackberry, especialyl when you’ve picked your own from hedgerows 🙂
I can’t get enough of that tea pot and cup set. They’re such a wonderful mix of kitsch and high class. I’ve never heard of a lilly pilly either, but the colour looks delightful. My favourite berry is raspberry – I love them fresh off the bush with a sprinkle of sugar and a drizzle of cream.
My favourite berry made into Jam is raspberry, which of course must be spread on warm scones with fresh cream, served with a pot of tea. The mix of crockery looks delightful Krista. I am glad your friends popped over to enjoy the occasion. 🙂
Oh so much fun to hear you are being interviewed — so glad your work is being noticed! Love your tea party setting and you’ve introduced me to a new berry I’d never before heard of. . .
The duckling is gorgeous. I don’t think I would be able to let him go! I love the look of your tea party – it looks very elegant and there’s a lovely assortment of goodies to eat xx
I can remember eating these berries at my grandmother when I was very young! Lovely looking tea party Krista 🙂
The duckie is adorable. I grew lilly pillies in Wodonga and never saw fruit – ever. You are lucky! That’s a gorgeous table setting and now I’m hungry.
Congratulations on the release of your book Krista. Your spread from the tea party looks amazing. I can understand why you’d want to give as many cuddles as possible to those sweet ducklings. My favourite berry would have to be British strawberries when in season – they are so tasty and worth waiting for 🙂
Your tea party looks so lovely!! I’m sure it was so fun to feast like that with friends.
I love tea parties and that table looks fabulous wow
Can I come live with you? LOL! I adore that top picture of the baby duck, the colours are amazing, and well…. it is sooooo cute! 🙂
I have never had a lilly pilly berry before, but I want too, especially now. I love raspberries, and strawberries and blueberries…. I like all berries.
Wishing you an amazing day my lovely friend. xo
I love the term ‘lilly pilly’. And those ducks are so sweet.
